What kind of program is it?

 

 

 

ASSE/WH International Exchange Students Program is committed to give students the chance to explore exciting global educational opportunities. We recruit exchange students from different countries, different cultures, and under the different middle school education systems. One-year exchange experience will help you access to the local education, learn the local language and understand the local culture. Participating in the exchange program is not only beneficial in learning the language, but also you can broaden your horizons. What’s more, all aspects of your abilities can be improved through the living and studying abroad. These valuable experiences are sure to help you build up a sound personality, and serve as a bridge between the theory and practice, while such exchanges can also deepen the friendship between you and the host families. It’s an experience you will remember and cherish for the rest of your life.

 

 

1. How does this program guarantee my study life in China?
The multi-level management organization will keep tracking and guiding each student’s learning and living in China. The host parents will take care of you at home and you also have counselor at school.
You may ask for help from the regional representative and ASSE China head office at any time when they encounter problems.

 

2. How long does the program take?
Generally the foreign students who participate in ASSE/WH international exchange program will spend 10 months to live in China, starting from the September of the first year and finishing in June of the next year.

In addition, ASSE China can customize special courses according to the requirements from the applicants.

 

3. Why do I choose ASSE China?
ASSE was originally founded in Sweden in 1938 by the Swedish national Ministry of Education. Today, ASSE maintains 38 offices in 31 countries and accommodates more than 30,000 high school age students and host families annually in its programs in the participating countries.

4.What can I get from this one-year experience

You are sure to benefit from this experience for the rest of your life. You will look at the world from a brand-new perspective in the future. 5. How can I apply for the ASSE China Program? Must I know the Chinese language?
You can contact directly ASSE/WH China office or ASSE and WH regional office in your country.

There is no Chinese language requirement, but you are required to have some basic understanding of the Chinese culture and students should be interested in learning Chinese.

 

6. What are the conditions to apply for the ASSE program?
The application conditions include: reaching the age of 15 to 18 years old, aspiring to participate in the exchange programs in China. Students should be in good health and have extensive interests.

 

 

 

 

 

Living with your host family


 

 

1. What kind of family is it?
The exchange students need to live in a host family for one year, your host family will do everything possible to help you feel part of the family. Your host parents are responsible for you during your exchange year and you will certainly spend a lot of time with them during the year. You will gather around the dinner table every evening, go to the cinema together or make weekend trips. During your everyday life with your host families, you will celebrate family holidays together and get to know both the relatives and friends. The host families are selected strictly after a long period of assessments. After approving a host family, ASSE China will interview the family members, visit their home and check their references.

 

2. Can I choose where to live during my exchange year?
We advise all our exchange students to keep an open mind about where they are placed, since this gives us much wider options to find the optimum host family. It’s not allowed to choose the location by yourself.

 

3. What does a local representative do?
Local representatives represent ASSE China in the area where you are placed. They recruit host families, assist and support our exchange students during the year and maintain contact with the local schools. Some representatives have hosted exchange students in the past.

 

4. Where will I be placed in China?
ASSE China regional offices are located in different provinces and regions, with many voluntary host families from different provinces and cities in China, They may come from the capital and modern city, or the traditional or simple small towns and small communities where the traditional culture is well-preserved. If you clearly demonstrate your main interests (sports, music, etc.), you might possibly be placed in the host family which may share common interests with you.


 

5. Can I travel alone or visit friends during the program?
In order to guarantee your safety, ASSE China Office doesn’t allow you to travel alone or visit friends by yourself. You can travel with host family and school together. They also can take part in various activities organized by the ASSE regional representatives and ASSE China Office.


 

6. Can my relatives and friends visit me in China?
If your parents and friends want to visit you in China, they should put forward a written application to the ASSE domestic office ahead of time. In order to make you adapt to the new environment and establish friendship with the host family better, the best suggestion is that they visit you at the end of the program.

 

 

 

 

Studying in China

 

 

 

 

1. What type of school will I go to? Which grade will I attend in?

Receiving schools are approved by The Chinese Education Bureau. Normally you will be placed in public schools which have an international division or international class, providing better environments for the exchange students.

 

2. What subject will I take in Chinese school?
The school courses include the required and elective courses. You can also select some courses with rich cultural characteristics.

 

3. How can I improve my Chinese in school?
The placed schools have special Chinese language tutors for teaching and guiding Chinese learning especially for the exchange students. Communication between exchange students with local Chinese students and host families will be very effective to promote Chinese language learning. After one-year of the exchange program in China, the majority of the students can make a very great progress and obtain different levels of the HSK certifications.

 

4. How can I evaluate my level of Chinese learning during the program?
We encourage exchange students to take the national HSK test, the most authorized Chinese language test in the world. After one-year studying in China you can take part in the HSK test to evaluate Chinese language level.
HSK is to test the non-native Chinese learners, including foreigners, overseas Chinese and Chinese minority examinees). It is a standardized test of various levels: HSK (basic), HSK (early, middle), and HSK (advanced). HSK is held regularly every year in China and overseas. If you pass, you will get the “Chinese Language Level Certificate” issued by the National HSK Committee.

 

5. What are my extracurricular activities?
In addition to participating in all kinds of learning activities, host families and ASSE regional representatives also organize some interesting and attractive activities to promote students’ Chinese learning and communication. ASSE China Office also organizes one to two trips in the year to make your exchange life rich and colorful.
